Every year the California Grand Lodge and its constituent Masonic lodges throughout the state proclaim one month to be “Public Colleges Month.” A proclamation is routinely delivered by the sitting Grand Master, read aloud in each constituent lodge during one or more monthly acknowledged meetings. With guaranteed funding for college students who are at the poverty line, both the colleges and their students would stand a far larger likelihood of academic success than they do now. The IFETs would intervene in the dispute about public dollars funding non-public colleges.
As a substitute, public dollars would fund public colleges designed to accomplish a public need: the true education of America’s least-privileged kids. When billions of dollars are divided among the 9.6 million eligible college-aged kids, the potential for change is staggering.
